Odito's promise is simple: India's most trusted hyperlocal marketplace. Trust is not a slogan here — it is built from a small number of concrete signals and a clear set of rules.
The Verified Badge
Sellers can complete a one-time Aadhaar OTP verification to earn a Verified Badge next to their name on every listing. The check is a fraud-safety measure — we do not store an image of the Aadhaar card, and the number is encrypted at rest. The badge is free.
You can verify from the Verify with Aadhaar OTP page. Buyers should still meet in person and inspect the item — verification confirms identity, not the condition of the goods.
Fraud screening on every listing
When a seller submits a listing, Odito runs heuristic checks before it goes live. The current signals are:
- Contact details hidden in the title or description (phone numbers, URLs, "WhatsApp me", etc.).
- Suspiciously thin descriptions.
- Suspiciously low prices for the category.
- Duplicate listings from the same seller.
Listings whose total fraud score crosses a high-risk threshold are auto-rejected and surfaced to admin for review. Lower-risk flags appear in the moderation queue with the highest-scoring listings first. AI-based scoring will be added behind the same system.
Reporting a listing
If you see a listing that looks like a scam, an illegal item, or a duplicate, hit Report on the listing page. Reports go straight to admin and are tracked individually. Repeat offenders are removed.
Banned items
You may not list:
- Weapons, ammunition, explosives, and items requiring a licence.
- Drugs, prescription medicines, and controlled substances.
- Wildlife, ivory, animal parts, exotic pets.
- Counterfeit goods, replicas, or copyright-infringing items.
- Stolen goods or items of unclear provenance.
- Government IDs, exam materials, currency.
- Sexual content, adult services, escort services.
- Any item restricted under Indian law.
See Terms of Service §3 for the full conduct list.
Safe-meet checklist
Almost every Odito transaction happens in person. Use this checklist:
- Meet in public — a tea shop, a petrol pump, the main bazaar. Daytime is better.
- Bring someone with you for higher-value items (phones, vehicles, electronics).
- Inspect before paying — turn the phone on, drive the bike, plug in the appliance. Check IMEI / serial numbers.
- Pay only after you have the item. Never send money in advance. Never share OTPs.
- Cash or UPI on the spot — not bank transfer in advance.
- For vehicles: check the RC book, insurance, and that the engine and chassis numbers match. Complete the RTO transfer.
What we don't do
- We do not hold escrow.
- We do not provide shipping or delivery.
- We do not insure transactions.
- We do not mediate disputes between buyers and sellers about price or quality.
If something goes wrong
File an FIR locally for fraud, theft, or threats — Indian police are the right people for these. Send us the FIR copy at grievance@odito.in and we will cooperate with the investigation, ban the offending account, and provide records under lawful request.
For everything else, use the Grievance Redressal page.
